Phlebotomy Technician

 

 

Train in the basic blood-drawing procedures for venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. You will have an understanding of the skills, knowledge and level of responsibility required to perform competently as entry-level phlebotomy/lab personnel.  Proof of Basic Life Saving Certificate completion is required for Admission.

What Is a Phlebotomy Technician?

 

Phlebotomy technicians assist patients with the collection of blood and other clinical specimens.

What Does a Phlebotomy Technician Do?

 

As an important member of the clinical laboratory team, you will:

  • draw blood specimens by venipuncture, syringe and micro-collection techniques
  • collect and process other clinical specimens
  • prepare samples for laboratory testing and analysis
  • assemble and maintain medical instruments such as needles, test tubes, blood vials, and centrifuges

What Will I Learn With This Training?

 

In just a three-month program you will gain hands-on experience and learn to: 

  • draw blood from patients and blood donors
  • put patients at ease during procedure
  • verify a person’s identity to ensure proper labeling of the blood
  • label the drawn blood for testing or processing
  • enter patient information into a database
  • learn to process specimens for testing
